Frasassi Caves: Explore the Underground Wonders
Experience Details
Frasassi Caves, located in the heart of the Regional Natural Park of the Gola della Rossa and Frasassi, are one of the most spectacular karst complexes in Europe. These imposing underground caverns, discovered in 1971, stretch for kilometers and house gigantic stalactites and stalagmites, crystal-clear lakes, and striking limestone formations shaped by water over millions of years.
What We’ll Do:
- Guided Tour of the Caves: you’ll discover spectacular rooms, including the immense Wind Cave and the majestic Ancona Abyss, with a professional guide from the Frasassi Consortium, who will explain the history and geological features of the site.
- Optional Speleological Tours: for the more adventurous, special visits are available to explore areas normally closed to the public.

- Full ticket: €18.00
- Reduced (6-14 years): €12.00
- Children under 6 years: Free
- Private and speleological tours: Available upon reservation with rates from €40 to €50
Schedule and Opening Hours:
- High season (from mid-June to the end of August): tours from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM;
- Mid season: tours from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Low season (from November to February): hours may vary, it’s advised to check the official website.
Annual closure: December 4, December 25, from January 7 to January 30.
Last entry: 30 minutes before closing.
Useful Information:
- Equipped and safe path: the visit covers 1500 meters with stairs and walkways that are easy to navigate.
- Internal temperature: constant at 14°C (57°F), a sweatshirt or sweater is recommended.
- Non-slip shoes: the path can be slippery.
- Limited mobility: access is available up to Room 200, while wheelchair users can only access the first room.
- Strollers: allowed only in the first room, a baby carrier backpack is recommended.
- Dogs: allowed only small breeds in a carrier or in arms.
- Smoking and touching the limestone formations is prohibited.
- Free Wi-Fi available in the ticket office area.
- Restrooms available before the visit.

How to Get There:
From Cupra Marittima, Genga is about 130 km (approximately 1.5 hours by car).
- By car: Take the A14 highway north. Exit Ancona Nord, follow SS76 towards Genga (25 minutes from the toll booth).
- By train from Ancona: Ancona-Rome line, Genga - San Vittore Terme stop (15 minutes on foot from the ticket office).
Parking & Ticket Office: San Vittore delle Chiuse, Genga (AN).
Free shuttle available from the parking lot to the cave entrance.
