Arquata del Tronto

Arquata del Tronto is the only european town situated within two different national nature reserves: the National Park of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga southwards, and the National Park of Monti Sibillini northwards. The majestic medieval fortress, dating back to the XII century, is certainly the symbol of the city: according to tradition, Giovanna d'Angiò, from Napoli, made it rebuild. Recently restored, with its tower it overtops the way to Rome and to Umbria and it looks a real city fortress. Inside the town centre we meet the church of Santissima Annunziata, where we find an authentic valueble piece: the wooden polychrome crucifix dating back to the XIII century and considerated the holiest statue in the region.Arquata del Tronto is a lovely mountain place; not far from here, in Forca Canapine (1541 mt.), it is possible to do some winter sports and to go for some relaxing walks in the Park of the fortress.
