Castorano
Castorano is a small town standing on a hill of the river Tronto valley and belonging to the district of Ascoli Piceno. In the old centre of the city we suggest you notice the town tower with the clock, a monument very dear to the citizens of this place. The tower has a pentagonal form and was probably built in 1472, when the city had a leading defensive role in the state of Ascoli, since it stood on the borderline of it. The tower Ghibelline merlons represent important marks of the old surrounding wall. Within the old village, we suggest you visit the front door, dating back to the XIV century, also known as “porta castellana”, the parish church of Santa Maria della Visitazione, built in the year one thousand, and its wonderful crypt, dated back to the XII century and annexed to the medieval tower.
