Comunanza

The historical origins of Comunanza town are very old and they are closely related to the tradition of a powerful fortress nearby: Monte Pasillo. Comunanza is the base of the territorial association of Monti Sibillini, that includes towns belonging to the districts of Ascoli Piceno and Fermo. The area offers the chance to visit the greatest beauties of the landscape of the province: the medieval village, the ruins of the castle (once belonged to the Nobili's), the late Gothic church of Sant'Anna, the church of San Francesco, built on the ruins of a temple, the artificial lake of Gerosa, on the borderline of the National Park of Monti Sibillini. Thanks to its huge dam, this lake has an important hydroelectric function for the area, and at the same time represents a tourist attraction for fishermen and sailors. In Colle Terme, about 1,5 kilometers away from here, there are important ruins of Roman thermal baths, discovered thanks to an archaeological exavation, that confirms the Roman origin of the town.
