Montalto delle Marche

The city of Montalto delle Marche lies on a hill, between the rivers Aso and Tesino, in a privileged position from which you can enjoy a wonderful sight that includes the Maiella mountains, the Gran Sasso massif, the Sibillini mountain chain with the Vettore mountain and the Adriatic sea. There are many monuments to see in the town: the fourteenth-century city walls, with the “Patrizia”, “Marina”, and dei “Leoni” doors, and its massive towers; the Palazzo dei Presidi, with its historical and diplomatic archives, containg more than 250 documents written between the thirteenth and the eighteenth centuries; the Massimauri palace (XVI century), the Pasqualini palace (XVIII century), the Sacconi palace (XIX century) and the cathedral basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, dated back to the XVI century. This cathedral symbolizes the town and it is one of the two co-cathedrals of the diocese of San Benedetto del Tronto-Ripatransone-Montalto; besides, it preserves a golden reliquary dating back to the XV century and some frescoes painted by Luigi Fontana.
