Spinetoli
The town of Spinetoli, with its old centre dating back to the XIII century, lies on a nice hill in the area of Piceno. In July 2006, in the hamlet of San Pio, underneath the homonymous church, an archaeological excavation has found a necropolis composed of sixty graves, attesting the existence of the settlement even during the Roman period. Its medieval castle (of which remains just a part), was conquered and plundered by Francesco Sforza in 1425. Thanks to an interesting process of renovation, today we can fully admire the sixteenth-century town hall, adjacent to the civic tower, the shrine of Madonna delle Grazie, the little square of Belvedere with the homonymous staircase that overlooks the valley of the river Tronto and Piazza Roma, with the church of Santa Maria Assunta. An interesting project is the Valle dell'Oasi (Oasis Valley), a naturalistic area suitable for walks. Inside the oasis some farmlands have been given to old people living nearby in order to cultivate local products. Photo Credit: Yallersmarche
