Monsampolo del Tronto
The origin of the name “Monsampolo” comes from the name of a Frankish knight, called “Monù de Saint Paul”. In the town we suggest you visit some monuments, as Porta Maggiore, built at the end of the fifteenth century, the arch of the death (Arco della Morte), near the town hall, the baroque church of Maria SS. Assunta, once called church of Santi Maria e Paolo, built between the sixteenth and the seventeenth centuries, containing an altar piece dated back to 1596 and representing the Last Supper; in its basement there is also the crypt. Monsampolo is famous for its nougats with figs; according to the seventeenth-century tradition, they are also available in different flavour.
